Maria's Story

Dear MCRC,

When I entered college as a single mom, I struggled to survive ; felt discouraged, and sometimes even hopeless. I was sure the bottom was going to drop out at any minute, because I had no resources or anyone to fall back on. Everyday I wished for someone who could answer my prayers, and rescue me when I needed rescuing. Then like a miracle, God sent me Sheila, Kim, Gary, and all of the other wonderful people at MCRC. Volunteers at MCRC always came through for me, and gave weekly encouragement to keep me going strong. I want you to know that you have made a real difference in my life and my daughter's life, because you do God's work and you cared for us.

"Thank you" is not enough to express my sincere gratitude for giving me a chance at life. Over the years, you have been there when I needed help with rent, car payments, electricity bills, food, school supplies, personal and cleaning supplies, clothes, car repairs, and even gas cards. You even helped get me started at The Housing Partnership, so that I can own my own home one day. Later, you attained a UPS scholarship for me, and it helped me to get through the last semester of school. As if that were not enough, you helped us to have Christmas presents, and tickets to the circus. You did all of this with grace, and allowed me to maintain dignity.

I have received so many gifts, but the most important things MCRC gave me were hope for the future and peace of mind. With all of your help, I was able to maintain straight

 A 's, receive several scholarships and awards, earn my Associate's Degree, and now I am a Registered Nurse! You are my extended family, and I cherish you all. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts.
