2010 Julep Ball

Derby-eve entertaining at its finest.

On the first Saturday in May the world turns its attention to Louisville, Kentucky to watch the greatest two minutes in sports - the Kentucky Derby.

The night before the Derby, local and national business leaders, horse industry professionals and celebrities from sports, music, cinema & television join forces to help raise money for the James Graham Brown Cancer Center www.browncancercenter.org . In 2009, more than 1,300 people from across the country attended the sold-out event presented by Southern Wine & Spirits.

This black-tie event not only features a celebrity red carpet entrance, cocktail reception, gourmet dinner, and dancing, but also deluxe specialty bars, live and silent auction and keepsake photos. Past auction items include: tickets to the Emmy Awards, game tickets in the L.A. Lakers Owner’s Suite, poker game with Phil Hellmuth, Masters golf tournament and World Series tickets.

This year’s honorary chairman is 11-time World Championship of Poker winner Phil Hellmuth.  While the 2010 celebrity list hasn’t been finalized, past celebrity guests have included Valerie Bertinelli, John Elway, Mekhi Phifer, Joe Piscopo, Evander Holyfield, Greg Grunberg, Bob Guiney, Rebecca Budig, Kathryn Joosten, Conrad Bachmann, Nora Roberts and more.

The Julep Ball has caught the eye of national publications. The February issue of Southern Living magazine promotes the Julep Ball as the charity event to attend for a “Trip of a Lifetime.” http://www.southernliving.com/travel/south-central/southern-vacations-the-kentucky-derby-00400000063523/

The excitement is building locally as well, one-third of available tickets have been reserved during pre-sale opportunities. Formal invitations are scheduled to be distributed in March.

Join us Friday, April 30, 2010 for the Julep Ball at the Galt House Hotel & Suites Grand Ballroom.

Tickets for the ball are $500 per person.  For event and sponsorship information, visit www.julepball.org or contact Heather Falmen at 502.562.3153 or heather.falmen@louisville.edu.
